How to Choose the Right Material
Which mulch should I get?
Double shredded hardwood is the all-around choice for beds and around trees. Dyed black, brown or red holds its color longer for curb appeal. Leaf mulch breaks down faster and feeds the soil. For play areas, go with playground mulch or wood chips.
Which gravel is right for my project?
Crusher run (#21A) compacts into a firm base for driveways and patios. #57 bluestone drains well for walkways and French drains. Pea gravel and river rock are the decorative picks for paths and beds. Shop stone & gravel.
Topsoil or compost?
Topsoil builds up grade and fills new beds. Compost is an amendment you mix in to improve existing soil. Our topsoil/compost mix does both for new gardens. Read: topsoil vs compost.

Is delivery really free?
Yes. Delivery is free to every address in our 8-county service area in Maryland and Northern Virginia.
Can I pick up material?
No. Mulch & Stone is delivery-only, so there is no yard to visit. Our offices in Edgewater, MD and Centreville, VA are not retail locations.
How is material sold?
Mulch, topsoil, compost and wood chips are sold by the cubic yard. Stone, gravel and sand are sold by the ton.
How much do I need?
Use our material calculator. Enter length, width and depth and it gives you the amount.
What days do you deliver?
Monday through Friday. You pick the date at checkout. We do not guarantee a specific time of day.
