Delivery FAQ: Bulk Mulch & Stone Delivery in Maryland & Northern Virginia
Mulch & Stone delivers bulk mulch, topsoil, compost, stone, gravel, sand and firewood across Maryland and Northern Virginia. Delivery is free on most products. Here are straight answers to the questions our customers ask most.
Ordering and scheduling
How soon can you deliver?
We aim to deliver the next business day, Monday through Friday. In spring (March to May) we book up fast, so order a few days ahead if you need a specific date.
Do you deliver on weekends?
No. We deliver Monday through Friday.
Can I pick up material or visit your yard?
No. We are delivery-only, with no retail yard or pickup counter. Our Edgewater and Centreville addresses are offices. Not running a yard is how we keep prices low and delivery free. Want to see a product first? Every product page on our website has photos.
Is there a minimum order?
Yes. Mulch and compost: 5 cubic yards. Topsoil: 1 cubic yard. Stone and sand: 1 ton.
Is delivery really free?
Yes, on mulch, topsoil, compost, playground chips, sand and most stone. White decorative stone (white gravel and white marble chips) carries a one-time $150 delivery fee. It is shown on the product page and added at checkout, so there are no surprises.
Delivery day
What time will my delivery arrive?
We cannot promise an exact time. Your driver calls you before arriving. Have a crew waiting or a tight schedule? Put it in your order notes and we will do our best to fit your window.
Do I need to be home?
No. Mark the spot, move cars out of the way, and we will drop it in your driveway.
Where will you dump it?
On your driveway or another hard surface. The truck needs about 12 to 14 feet of width (two parking spaces) and clear space overhead, with no low branches or wires. Mark the exact spot with a tarp, cone, flag or chalk and add a note at checkout. Unmarked spots are left to the driver’s judgment.
Can you dump on a tarp?
Yes. Lay the tarp where you want the pile. A tarp makes cleanup easier and keeps fines and dye off your driveway.
Can you drop it on my lawn or in my backyard?
No. We deliver to hard surfaces only. Loaded trucks weigh many tons and can rut lawns and crack walkways.
Will the truck damage my driveway?
Our drivers take care, but a loaded truck is heavy. We are not responsible for damage to driveways or surrounding property. Tell us about soft spots, new concrete or a steep slope when you order.
Can you split one order with a neighbor?
Yes, if your neighbor is on the same street and within five houses of you. Note both addresses and how much goes to each in your order.
Weather
Do you deliver in the rain?
Yes. Our products are stored outdoors and made for outdoor use, so we deliver in all weather, dyed mulch included. If dyed mulch arrives wet, hold off on spreading it until it dries, because the dye can run off the mulch.
Should I wait to spread dyed mulch?
Spread it, then let it dry for 24 to 48 hours before watering or heavy rain. That sets the color.
Changes, cancellations and payment
Can I reschedule or cancel?
Yes, free of charge, if you tell us by the end of business the day before delivery. Same-day cancellations or refusals carry a $150 service fee.
What payment do you accept?
We accept major credit cards except American Express. We do not accept eChecks. If your bank blocks the charge, approve it with your bank and call us to run it again.
Do you offer tax-exempt pricing?
Tax-exempt organizations: send us your tax-exempt form, then call to place your order. We apply the exemption over the phone.
What if my load looks short?
Piles look smaller than you would expect. 10 cubic yards fits in a 10 × 10 × 2.7-foot space. If you think something is wrong, send photos of the pile the same day and we will make it right.
Do you spread or install material?
No, we deliver only. Ask us, and we will pass along names of local installers.
